NACOGDOCHES AMATEUR RADIO CLUB REMEMBERS SHUTTLE COLUMBIA EVENT
NACOGDOCHES AMATEUR RADIO CLUB REMEMBERS SHUTTLE COLUMBIA EVENT
The local amateur radio club will conduct a special event station on Saturday, February 6 at the McMichael Middle School, located at 4330 S.E. Stallings Drive. The event station will run from 9 AM until 3 PM.
In 2003 when the shuttle Columbia came apart over East Texas, ham radio operators came together to supplement communications for various government entities who were coming into the area for the recovery event. In addition to the local hams, operators from over a multi-state area drove to Nacogdoches to volunteer the use of their time, vehicles, and equipment to provide communication resources.
The Saturday event will be open to the public to come view a radio set-up similar to that used during the 2003 recovery and pictures that were made by local ham radio operators.
